Help your little ones get into the spirit of Halloween in this fun and creative Pom Pom Spider tutorial, perfect for getting kids crafting this Autumn! All it takes is some tissue paper, card and lots of imagination!

Step 1

To begin your Halloween Pom Pom Spider, cut 8 squares of tissue paper. 20cm by 20cm will work well, but you can do yours whatever size you want!

Step 2

Next stack all the sheets together and fasten with a paper clip at the top then we are going to do a concertina fold (like a fan!) so make a small fold at the bottom, approx. 2cm up

Step 3

Turn your tissue paper upside down and fold again

Step 4

Keep doing this all the way to the top

Step 5

Fasten in the middle with a paper clip

Step 6

Shape each end of your folded strip – we’ve cut ours into a point to make it slightly spookier for Halloween, but get creative- how about a wave or a zig zag? The possibilities are endless!

Step 7

Cut out 8 strips of black paper for the spiders legs! Then fold in half down the middle

Step 8

Tie a length of string round the middle of your folded strip, not to tight that it pulls the strip in but tight enough to hold the layers together

Step 9

Fan out the folds

Step 10

Start slowly peeling the layers up, put one layer out at a time (don’t worry if it rips, that just adds to the effect!) Keep going round fluffing each layer out

Step 11

You should now have something that resembles this

Step 12

Next get your spiders legs and make a little fold about a third of the way along so our spider looks like its walking!

Step 13

Start sticking the spider’s legs on! We stuck ours onto the middle layer

Step 14

Step 15

Finally to add the finishing touch, cut a pair of eyes out! We cut ours from funky foam to make them really stand out! For the centre of the eyes, we drew around a glue top lid!

Voila! You now have a spooky (but super cute!) decoration perfect for Halloween! How about trying one in a different colour or different size? Or how about a pumpkin or a Bat Pom Pom? Browse our art supplies to get more inspiration!
